Why are regular dental checkups important?

Going to the Brampton dentist is a short-term problem, but you can be sure something will go wrong if you don't go. Even if you make sure you brush your teeth on a regular basis and floss frequently there could be issues with your teeth and gums that you may not notice. Such problems could become way more serious, expensive and painful in the future.

The routine dental checkups or dental exams are about preserving the health of your teeth that's why the first step in any dental checkup is a dental hygienist getting rid of plaque or tartar from the teeth. Plaque is to teeth what rust is to a vehicle. This gummy bacterial intruder mixes with the food and bolts onto your gums and teeth. When its counts suffice it becomes harder and if you don't get rid of it on time it can start breeding below the gum line leading to tooth decay.

Once the plaque is taken care of, the next step is getting the teeth polished with a light abrasive paste. After the teeth are cleaned, the dental expert steps in, they check for signs of problems including, oral cancer and gingivitis gum disease.  They check the pockets between the gums and teeth and use a mirror to see the backs of the teeth. Some visits they might take X. rays. They will examine whether your gums are smooth and they will also see if there are any cracks from jaw clinching in your sleep.

It is important to visit a dentist every 6 months to ensure best tooth health. Apart from this, there are also many things you can do to keep your teeth and gums in good condition. Brush your teeth to remove plaque, this helps to prevent gum disease and tooth decay. Brush your teeth for 2 minutes twice a day so at night time and one time during the day. You can use an electric or manual toothbrush using the correct brushing technique. For good oral hygiene use fluoride toothpaste. Reduce foods that are high on sugar and acid. It is also a good idea to stop habits like drinking alcohol and smoking. Chew from both sides as this helps prevent any pain in your jaw joints. Teach the children to take care of their teeth very early on as it's important for children to learn the skill.

Get in touch with your dentist open weekends regularly and make sure you undergo checkups.

Gum disease: what it really is?

Gum disease is one of the most common conditions in adults, with close to 90% of dental patients experiencing some form of gingivitis. Gum disease can range from mild gingivitis to severe bone reduction causing tooth loss. While hereditary predisposition to gum disease is real, most people can take a proactive response to eliminate or even reverse this oral disease. What Does Gum Disease Look Like?
