Gum Reshaping or Contouring: Why Is It Done?

A big part of cosmetic dentistry is gums correction. Gums in some patients can be too low or too high from aesthetic point of view, making their teeth appear too small or too long, respectively. Such recession can be related to periodontal disease but normally alignment issues are a consequence of genetics. Fortunately, the problem can be solved by gum reshaping or gum contouring . The process: Gum contouring is a simple process which is performed by trained experts. There are numerous methods such as, laser and scalpel that can be used to carry out the process. Out of the two, however, dentists prefer using laser because it reduces the requirement for stitches and speeds up gum healing by closing the wounds quickly. Patients, of course, receive a sedative which means the whole procedure is absolutely painless. It is normally performed in a single visit as only the gums of the front teeth are reshaped or removed.
