An Aerial View On Dental Veeners

Originally invented by a Californian Charles Pincus in 1928 to temporarily alter the appearance of actors’ teeth for a film, Dental Veneers or Porcelain Veneers are thin, fabricated, shell-like material placed over your teeth to help improve their aesthetic appearance.

Dental Porcelain Laminates or Dental Veneers can be used to alter the color, shape, size or length of your teeth. These are created from the impressions of a patient’s natural teeth using composite or dental porcelain. After being designed in a dental laboratory by professional dentist Brampton, these porcelain replacements are fixated to the front of teeth or tooth that are beyond repair using special cement, typically resin cement.

Commonly two main types of materials are used to fabricate a Veneer: Composite or Resin and Dental Porcelain. Porcelain veneers are stain resistant and gum tissue is more tolerant to these in comparison to resin veneers, which are thinner and require removal of less of the tooth surface before replacement. To know which type of veneer will be best suitable for you, you will have to thoroughly discuss your dental problems with your Brampton dentist.

Even though Veneers are of great help for people facing the following problems, these should be used as a last resort since these are bonded to the natural teeth and can permanently damage them in the process:

·       Discolored or stained teeth: this can really be a set-back for you when you have a beautiful smile and yet are afraid to smile broadly or laugh loudly because of the fear of showing your discolored teeth to your peers, family and friends. The reason of your stained teeth could be root-canal treatment, excessive use of fluorides and other drugs, teeth-whitening treatments, etc. This can now be fixed using Veneers. As they are crafted to match the shape and color of the surrounding teeth, they give a natural appearance as that of your original teeth.

·     Misaligned, uneven, irregularly shaped, chipped or cracked teeth: If all regular orthodontic treatments like retainers and braces have ceased to work on your teeth, porcelain veneers can be your last-resort. As for the chipped or cracked teeth, veneers not only add on to the aesthetic value of your teeth, but the hard coating can protect the already weak teeth from further damage.

·       Teeth with gaps: Besides Dental implants and surgical treatments for fixing the gaps between teeth, porcelain veneers are an alternative which can be placed over your natural teeth to close in the gaps, creating a similar look without the excessive pain of surgery or recovery time.

Even though Veneers can prove to be of a great help in altering your life and making you feel more confident about your appearance, we strongly suggest that you use Dental Veneers as your last resort as the process is irreversible. Not only are the veneers more costly, they are irreparable should they chip or crack. There are many advantages and disadvantages to the Veneers Treatment. We recommend that you thoroughly discuss the advantages and disadvantages with your Brampton dentist before undergoing any treatment.

But what if the safety step you took for preventing cavities leads to your child’s teeth getting stained? This is the dental health dilemma of fluoride. What is Fluoride and why is it used? Fluoride assists in securing a child’s teeth from cavities and reversing early stages of decay. One of the main sources of this compound is drinking tap water. Apart from this, adults and children have fluoride options in toothpaste, dental care products, mouthwash, and office treatments. However, the problem begins, when fluoride is used excessively, particularly by children younger than eight. Too much of this compound during early childhood, when the child’s permanent teeth are forming underneath the gums, can lead to dental fluorosis, discoloration of the teeth. But, once the child’s permanent teeth have erupted, fluoride does not...

Gum disease: what it really is?

Gum disease is one of the most common conditions in adults, with close to 90% of dental patients experiencing some form of gingivitis. Gum disease can range from mild gingivitis to severe bone reduction causing tooth loss. While hereditary predisposition to gum disease is real, most people can take a proactive response to eliminate or even reverse this oral disease. What Does Gum Disease Look Like? Early forms of gingivitis appear as small, irritated areas along the gumline that may be tender or bleed when you brush and floss. Healthy gums don’t bleed when you clean them. This usually causes people to avoid flossing the areas and allowing the condition to worsen. As gingivitis turns into periodontal disease, your dentist can see signs of obvious bone loss on your routine dental x-rays . There are also deep pockets, which develop under your gums due to the presence of unhealthy bacteria in the area. When left untreated, these areas continue to worsen until so much bone and gum attac...
