Orthodontist is a specialist in dentistry. The job of the orthodontist is to diagnose, prevent or treat any dental or facial irregularities such as crooked teeth, misaligned jaw, over bites, under bites, dental gaps, etc.

Advancement in the dental technology

In house digital X-rays, because of this technology it has become easier for the Orthodontist to gain a much clearer view of the patient’s mouth. This helps in understanding the complexity and the nature of the problem. This has also improved the efficiency of work, since these scans being digital in nature can be quickly converted to an image.

3D imaging, with the use of this technology it has drastically improved the way diagnosis is carried out. With much clearer results.

Digital scanners, the use of this technology to scan a patient’s mouth and create teeth impressions has replaced the manual effort. Now, in a single scan teeth impression can be viewed on the computer screen. This also reduces the number of fit issues.

Copper-titanium and nickel wires are being used instead of the steel wires or elastic ligatures to apply pressure to the brackets and align the teeth. Both the nickel and the copper-titanium wires have properties that respond well to the amount of heat produced in the mouth, keeping their bending and tightening properties in synchronicity with the movement of the teeth. This reduces the need to tighten them as compared to that in steel wires.

Clear brackets, they have undoubtedly revolutionised orthodontics. The use of clear bracket replaces the conventional metal brace for the use in simple dental treatments and aesthetic purposes. They are much more comfortable, convenient, removable and require less maintenance. Invisalign are much more expensive, they take more time to work, it could be an inconvenience for some as it is required to remove them before eating and after every meal you will need to brush and clean your mouth before putting them back on.
